Promises

She says she cares,
And I believe her.
But, a lot of people say they care.
A lot of people make fake promises
They just can't keep.
They can't even hold them.
They grab promises, and quickly look
down to see that their words are slipping
through the cracks of their futile fingers.
Words are rarely ingested, just egested
and regurgitated sloppily,
leaving unpronounceable carcasses of an old oath.
